It’s almost time for this year’s Lubbock Book Festival! Over 60 authors will be participating, such as Lubbock native Lance Stanford. In the past decade, he has written about a dozen books. His booth will display everything from comic books to children’s books, Christmas books to adult novellas and the latest anthology assembled by Batman author Scott Snyder. “Tales from the Cloakroom” is the second anthology published by Snyder’s Best Jackett publishing house that includes work by Stanford.
“Almost every story I’ve written will be there,” Stanford said. “I enjoy entertaining people and telling stories and this festival supports Literacy Lubbock, which is a great cause. Reading is fun and it is essential. Being part of this event is a way to give back to the community.”
The theme this year is “Summer Camp.” Stanford plans to lead a writing workshop that will be offered during the festival.
“I think it’s important to write. Even fiction helps us understand the time we live in. Writing helps us sort through things. It can be therapeutic,” said Stanford.
He is a fan of authors like “Fight Club” novelist Chuck Palahnuik, Marvel and DC Comics writer and artist Sina Grace and “Nightwing” author Tom Taylor. Although they have influenced Stanford’s own work, he said he doesn’t really fit into one genre. He likes sharing all kinds of stories at the Lubbock Book Festival.
“The talent here is awe-inspiring. I love books about all kinds of things, and I’ve written about everything from zombies to a time-traveling teddy bear,” Stanford said.
He is currently working on a new teen murder mystery that will be released later this year. Check out @thenightnerd on social media for more information.
“Stop by and see me! Whatever you like, I have a story for you,” said Stanford. “I’ll help you find your new favorite book!”
This family-friendly annual event brings together West Texas readers, authors and local creatives with hundreds of books, book signings, author panels and more at the Overton Hotel from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Aug. 23. Purchase tickets at https://www.lubbockbookfest.com/tickets.
