Regional theatregoers will be excited to learn that “Rapture, Blister, Burn” is set to open at Hollingsworth Hall June 13. This witty 2014 show is about ambition, family and lifestyle choices in an era when women’s options had expanded. It is being independently produced by theatre veterans Jay C. and Pamela Brown and Leah Tyson Houchin.
Written by Gina Gionfriddo, this comedy (for mature audiences only) examines gender politics, 20th century feminism and the road not taken. Two women, Catherine and Gwen, chose opposite paths after graduate school. Catherine focused on her career, while Gwen became a housewife and mother. Decades later, they each find themselves a little jealous of the other, which results in a high-stakes game of musical chairs.
With Jay Brown in the director’s chair, this production will feature leads Erin Castle as Catherine and Leah Tyson Houchin as Gwen. The role of Don will be played by George Comiskey and the youngest character; Avery will be played by Sierra Roberson. Pamela Brown will play Catherine’s mother, Alice.
“It’s a joy to watch these talented, experienced people bond and be able to play off of each other,” said Jay Brown. “A cast has to have good chemistry.”
This will be the fifth time the members of this group have performed together.
“This show is very relevant and It’s exciting to get to work with people you know and admire,” said Pamela Brown. “It’s a comedy, but it’s about the ways different generations of women look at society and the ways society views them, too. These perspectives are still important now. You won’t want to miss this sharp, funny, and deeply thought-provoking play!”
Performance dates are June 13-15 and June 20-22. Friday and Saturday evening performances take place at 7:30 p.m. and Sunday matinees are for 2:30 p.m. at Hollingsworth Hall, located at 4228 Boston Avenue in Lubbock. Purchase tickets at: https://h2c2.ludus.com/index.php.
