The City of Lubbock Announces Winners of the 2025 Storm Drain Art Project
Staff reports | The Atom
The City of Lubbock Stormwater Compliance Department has selected four artists for this year's Storm Drain Art Project. Artists Michelle Guerra, Edith Sanchez, Ashley Benton and Willis Bagley will paint their submitted murals on the storm drains at the intersection of 13th Street and Texas Avenue starting on June 2.
Their work will be part of the June First Friday Art Trail on June 6. Paint and supplies will be provided by the City to ensure materials meet environmental standards. Murals are expected to last three to five years. The four selected artists will receive $1,000 for their work with the opportunity to win an additional $250 if their mural is voted as the fan favorite by the public.
“We’re really excited to have the artists complete their murals and add to the art we have throughout the city,” said stormwater compliance specialist Cristal Gonzalez. “It beautifies the city and makes it more appealing to visitors and residents.”
After the artists are finished painting their murals on June 6, citizens can vote for their favorite at https://mylubbock.us/stormdrainartproject.
