Jill T Art: Creating and connecting with others
L.A. | The Atom
Originally from Dumas, Texas, Jill found joy in making art from the time she was a child with crayons. She always considered herself to be crafty, but she later made efforts to study and expand her skills. She has found refuge in creating and learned to view art as empowering in times of struggle.
“I felt like maybe I could create my own way out. Art has been a consistent part of my life,” said Jill. “One of my favorite things is the doors art has opened and the friends it had allowed me to meet. I’ve made some amazing connections. The arts community has been enriching.”
After spending decades in Amarillo, she has developed her own self-taught painting style and often does commissioned pieces. She uses a lot of texture in her work and describes herself as eclectic. Her subjects include flowers, plants, landscapes and human figures.
“It’s my little act of rebellion to just keep making beautiful things. It’s therapeutic. Anyone can do it. I think everybody can make art to help get in touch with what’s inside them,” Jill said.
Some of her work can be found at Idol Art Studio on 6th Street in Amarillo, as well as social media. Find out more on Facebook at: https://m.facebook.com/100050365066340/posts/1325230489165774/ or Instagram at: https://www.instagram.com/jill.t.art/.
“Even when you don’t have to have a lot of money or resources, you can still make art. You can use a pencil and paper to draw. Even when you don’t feel like it at first, it can just make you feel better,” Jill said. “Practice, practice, practice.”
