Miranda Stroble plans production of “Much Ado About Nothing” at Hollingsworth Hall

L.A. | The Atom

Auditions will be held June 16 from 7 to 9 p.m. at Hollingsworth Hall Cultural Center for a production of Shakespeare’s “Much Ado About Nothing.” Performance dates include three evening performances September 18-20 and a matinee September 21. The show, under the patronage of Hollingsworth Hall Cultural Center, is being produced and directed by Miranda Stroble, whose theatre experience includes directing, performing onstage roles and providing technical support and backstage work for nearly 100 shows. She has also taught high school theatre and choir.

From Carlsbad, New Mexico, Stroble’s introduction to theatre performance began when she was in the 8thgrade with a group called Missoula Children’s Theatre that was visiting her school. She had her first onstage role in the traveling troupe’s version of “Snow White.” Stroble went on to direct her first show, “Fairy Tale Courtroom,” at age 15 at Carlsbad High School.

She later earned her B.A. in theatre from Lubbock Christian University. As a student there, she played onstage roles in musical productions of "Cinderella" and "The Music Man," as well as original student productions. She also gained experience in technical and production roles working backstage with Master Follies.

After completing her degree, Stroble returned to Carlsbad, where she taught high school theatre and served on the board of directors for Carlsbad Community Theatre. She directed high school students in several productions, including "A Midsummer Night's Dream," and directed the Carlsbad Community Theatre production of "Steel Magnolias."

Stroble returned to Lubbock in 2020 and served as lighting designer for Lubbock Community Theatre productions such as “Clue” in 2021 and “Little Shop of Horrors” in 2022. She played onstage roles at CATS Playhouse in “Song of the Canyon Kid” and "Dial ‘M’ for Murder.” Last year, she directed the CATS Playhouse production of “Nunsense 2.” She has also made onstage appearances in shows produced by the Wallace.

Stroble said she has always loved Shakespeare and that she is eager to be back in the director’s seat. She’s excited to produce a comedy like “Much Ado About Nothing.”

“This show is fun and light-hearted, but still compelling,” said Stroble.

She said she plans to have a minimal set, and the costumes and props will not be elaborate because she wants the focus to be on the actors and the story they are telling. The things she has enjoyed the most about directing has been sharing her vision with a team to collaborate and bring something even better to life.

“My favorite part of theatre is that you can’t do it alone,” Stroble said. “There are a lot of talented people in the Lubbock community. I’ve worked with so many wonderful people. I’m looking forward to seeing people I know and people I’ve never met.”

Hollingsworth Hall is located at 4228 Boston Avenue in Lubbock. There will be an opportunity to submit video auditions for those unable to attend in person. Updates and ticket links can be found by following Hollingsworth Hall on social media.
