Locals and visitors alike have enjoyed the music, dancing and storytelling that is all part of the family- friendly TEXAS Outdoor Musical at Palo Duro Canyon State Park for the past 58 years. At the Pioneer Amphitheatre in the natural basin of the second largest canyon in the United States, a talented cast of fictional characters highlights the struggles and triumphs of the settlers of the Texas Panhandle in the 1800s. Season 59 of The TEXAS Outdoor Musical will open June 6, with David Yirak as Artistic Director. In addition, Shakespeare in the Canyon will return next month with Rachel Dawson directing “The Taming of the Shrew.”
TEXAS Outdoor Musical runs Tuesdays through Sundays beginning June 6. This year, the show beckons fans near and far to "Come Back to TEXAS.”
“Coming back to TEXAS feels like coming home,” said Yirak. “This show is more than entertainment—it’s a celebration of heritage, resilience and the spirit of the Texas Panhandle. We can’t wait to share it with you.”
There will be two opportunities to see “Th e Taming of the Shrew” July 14 and 21. This Shakespeare comedy will bring wit, energy and timeless humor to the canyon stage.
Tickets for both productions are available now at www.texas-show.com.
“TEXAS isn’t just a show—it’s a tradition,” said Honnah Taylor, who serves as Director of Marketing & Communications for the Cultural Foundation of the Texas Panhandle Plains Historical Museum and the TEXAS Outdoor Musical. “Seeing it live in the heart of Palo Duro Canyon connects you to the stories, the land, and the spirit that built the Lone Star State. There’s truly nothing like it under the summer sky.”
